Understanding the Problem
Research Goals
Research objective was to gather information about existing user experiences, needs, expectations, and pain points while working with 3D technology and generating 3D scans.
Competitive Research
Matter and Form, once a contender in consumer 3D scanning, lost market share since their initial scanner's release in 2013. I needed to evaluate the competition to understand the current landscape and ensure we could deliver an experience that not only matches but surpasses user expectations.
I tested scanners from three different competitors to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Creality 3D's CR-Scan 01, the Einscan-SE, and the Revopoint: POP 1
Through extensive testing of the three machines I determined that current competing scanning interfaces are:
•Difficult to understand and learn how to operate
•Frustrating to use
•The 3D space lacks consistency of design patterns between different brand offerings
